Finland's Tax Administration (Verohallinto) will send e-invoice proposals to approximately 400,000 individual taxpayers through their mobile and online banking platforms in May 2026, targeting customers of Nordea and OP who have outstanding property tax, prepayment tax, or residual tax obligations.
The e-invoice proposals will be delivered directly to customers' mobile and online banking interfaces through partnerships with Nordea and OP. Nordea customers will receive proposals in early May, while OP customers will receive theirs at month-end. The proposals remain visible for 30 days, and acceptance enables automatic e-invoicing for property tax, prepayment tax, residual tax, inheritance tax, and gift tax.
Finland's Tax Administration emphasizes that e-invoicing helps taxpayers avoid late payment interest, which ranges from 4.5% for inheritance tax to 9.5% for other tax categories in 2026. The service provides advance notification of payment obligations with pre-populated payment details, addressing potential oversight when electronic tax communications in the OmaVero system go unread.
Taxpayers who do not receive automatic proposals can still arrange e-invoicing through their online banking platforms or the OmaVero portal. Those not using online banking can establish direct payment arrangements with their banks. The Tax Administration will send reminder messages through Suomi.fi digital services or SMS for customers who do not respond to proposals within 10 days.
This initiative reflects Finland's broader digitization of government communications, where tax decisions and payment information are delivered primarily through electronic channels via Suomi.fi messaging or electronic tax post, with paper correspondence reserved only for taxpayers who do not use digital government services or specifically opt for postal delivery.
