Colorado Sales Tax Explained: State, County, City, Home Rule & Special District Taxes

Colorado sales tax is in practice a five separate systems stacked on top of each other: a flat state rate, a county rate, a city rate (collected two completely different ways depending on the city), a special district rate, and a separate set of rules for what specific goods get taxed at all. This publication draws on the state's own DR 1002 Colorado Sales/Use Tax Rates document for July 2026, and it now covers every table in that publication in full: all 64 counties, all 65 home rule cities, all 170 state-collected cities, all 12 special district types, and all 18 exemption codes.
