Tax Administration Proposes E-Invoicing to 400,000 Businesses Ahead of June 2026

Tax Administration Proposes E-Invoicing to 400,000 Businesses Ahead of June 2026
Compliance UpdateTuesday, May 5, 2026

The Finnish Tax Administration (Verohallinto) is sending e-invoice proposals to 400,000 individuals who have provided Nordea or OP account numbers and have property tax, residual tax, or advance tax payments due in 2026.

The proposals appear in customers' mobile and online banking platforms for 30 days. Nordea customers receive proposals in early May, while OP customers receive theirs at the end of May. Acceptance enables automatic e-invoicing for property tax, advance tax, residual tax, inheritance tax, and gift tax.

Customers who do not accept within 10 days receive reminders through Suomi.fi messages or SMS if phone numbers are available. The Tax Administration emphasizes that official messages never contain links. Customers can alternatively order e-invoices through their online banking or OmaVero portal, or arrange direct debit with their banks.

E-invoices help avoid late payment interest, which ranges from 4.5% for inheritance tax to 9.5% for other tax types in 2026. The initiative supports Finland's broader digitalization of government correspondence, where tax decisions and payment information are delivered electronically to customers using Suomi.fi messages or electronic tax post.
