123The Finnish Tax Administration has announced the start of statutory cooperation negotiations covering approximately 900 employees working in taxation and administrative functions. According to the authority’s current estimate, the negotiations could lead to the termination of up to 200 employment relationships. The negotiations are being conducted for production-related reasons and organisational restructuring. The Tax Administration states that certain tasks have decreased or are expected to decrease significantly and permanently due to automation, revised customer service targets, changes in working methods, and internal organisational restructuring. The authority employs approximately 5,000 people in total. The process is also linked to a reduction in budgetary funding. As part of broader government savings measures, the Tax Administration must adapt its operations by at least EUR 60 million by the end of 2027. Due to the reduced funding, the authority has more limited capacity to offer alternative roles to employees whose tasks are reduced. The cooperation negotiations are expected to last six weeks. It is not reported whether the announced measures will impact VAT administration or practice.
