French VAT Revenue Rose 8.9% in 2022, DGFiP Statistics Showtax-legislation

The French tax administration (DGFiP) published provisional VAT statistics for 2022 showing businesses subject to monthly VAT declarations generated €184 billion in VAT economic amounts, compared to €169 billion in 2021.

The 8.9% increase in VAT economic amounts was directly linked to a 14.5% rise in turnover declared by businesses in 2022. This growth was attributed to two primary factors: a 5.2% increase in the consumer price index between 2021 and 2022, and an increase in economic activity volume.

The statistics distinguish 2022's performance from the previous year's growth patterns. In 2021, VAT economic amounts increased by 9.7% and business turnover by 10.7%, which largely represented economic recovery following the 2020 health crisis. The 2022 figures reflect more normalized economic conditions with both inflationary pressures and genuine economic expansion contributing to the VAT revenue growth.

The bulletin is available in the studies and statistics section of the French tax administration's website, providing detailed analysis for tax professionals and compliance managers working with French VAT obligations.
