Bulgaria Parliament Considers Raising VAT Threshold to €85,000

Administrative NewsTuesday, May 12, 2026

The Bulgarian National Assembly has accepted for consideration two bills that would increase the mandatory VAT registration threshold for micro and small enterprises from €51,130 to €85,000.

Under Bill No. 52-654-01-2, the changes would enter into force on January 1, 2027. A second bill, No. 52-654-01-14, contains similar provisions. Both bills propose amendments to Bulgaria's VAT Act.

The proposed threshold increase would represent a 66% rise from the current level, potentially allowing more small businesses to operate below the VAT registration requirement. Bulgaria's current €51,130 threshold has remained unchanged since the country's EU accession arrangements were established.
