Argentina has approved a partial increase in fuel taxes effective 1 July 2025 while postponing the full implementation of previously scheduled tax adjustments until August, according to Decree 441/2025 published in the Official Gazette and reported by Río Negro on 30 June.

The decree, signed by President Javier Milei, Cabinet Chief Guillermo Francos and Economy Minister Luis Caputo, updates portions of the taxes applied to gasoline and diesel fuel while deferring the full impact of pending increases dating back to 2024.

Partial Tax Adjustment Takes Effect in July

According to Río Negro’s summary of the decree, the government approved updated tax amounts for gasoline and diesel that will apply between 1 and 31 July 2025.

The decree establishes increases in the Fuel Tax and Carbon Dioxide Tax components applicable to various fuel products. While the tax changes do not directly determine retail prices, they form part of the cost structure used by fuel suppliers.

Full Increase Deferred Again

Río Negro reported that the decree postpones the full application of fuel tax increases corresponding to the first quarter of 2024, as well as increases scheduled for subsequent quarters of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025.

According to the decree, the deferred adjustments are now scheduled to take effect from 1 August 2025.

The publication noted that the Argentine government has repeatedly delayed these tax increases since 2024, arguing that the measure helps maintain stability in domestic fuel prices.

Measure Published Through Official Decree

The tax changes were enacted through Decree 441/2025, published in Argentina’s Official Gazette on 30 June 2025.

The decree forms part of the government’s ongoing management of fuel taxation, balancing fiscal revenue considerations with concerns about inflation and consumer fuel costs.
